Mass starts at the Altar of Aquathlon!!
It was the last hurrah for our Aquathlon series this year, and you turned up in your droves!
There wasn’t a spare sunbed in town to lay your kit out & we even had a fair few spectators! According to MC Robert Finnigan music choices, we even had some of our previous members back in town.
Warm ups in the frozen lagoon, strides alongside the car park, it was all going on. A couple of hardy souls went sans wetsuit, no doubt to speed up the transition into what is always a hefty, strength sapping run – 3 times up the hill for the Sprinters & 1 ½ for the Supers.
From my marshalling position, I missed all of the lagoon action & transitions but was assured later on that it was action packed!
I was however lucky enough to be on the first turn up the hill so was able to witness the determination, grit & desire to conquer the slope, no matter your position.
Everyone gave their all, and a few shout outs from me for a few people – Amber with the big beaming smile every lap up the hill – she must enjoy the pain! Steve O'Keefe giving it the beans on the gravel, Emma B driving through the hurt to a podium in the Super Sprint, Ju Mills gritting her teeth through every stride, arms swinging, Sara T in her first Aquathlon & Rob W looking stronger on every lap.
Obviously, I could mention everyone, such was the joy you get from marshalling – a massive well done to all.
Also a massive thanks to all the volunteers, timekeepers, setters-up (is that a word?), registration & race organisers for putting on such a great Summer evening event!
And so onto the awards – another glittering array of prizes were handed out to overall Sprint & Super Sprint podium placers & also to our fabulous collection of Age Groupers – a rousing round of applause greeted all of you.
There was also special mention to high achievers from the club outside of the world of Triathlon – Natalia R is on the verge of being selected for Team GB in Archery & Isabel W for attaining her A Level results that gets her into Oxford University!
Whatever your achievement, it will be celebrated by all of us, as that’s what you sign up for when you join the Triathlon of Club of the Year!
We have the National Relays in Nottingham coming up at the end of August & then one last Super League qualifying event – the Duathlon on 12th October - [https://www.hillingdontriathletes.co.uk/.../duathlon...](https://www.hillingdontriathletes.co.uk/.../duathlon...)
Don’t be the one who didn’t participate & cost your team 2 pts – they could be vital in the Final Reckoning!
And finally, because obviously I’m biased, a massive shout out to the fabulous Honey Badgers, who won all the events in the Aquathlon series – whether that’s standing on top of the podium or volunteering, you all make a difference to your Super League Teams!
